Guests ascended the cool hills of upper St Andrew, Friday last, to attend Scotia Private Client Group’s annual soirée, ‘A Celebration of Art’, hosted by Centre Director, Scotia Private Client Group, Debra Lopez-Spence. The creative showcase paid homage this time to legendary master painter and ‘Father of Jamaican Art’, Albert Huie, whose work took centre stage inside the Jacks Hill residence alongside the work of other local artists.

Art came to life with models styling in Peace-is of Bianca, while in the dining room, the table was set with fine dinnerware by ceramicist David Pinto. Stafford Schliefer paintings hung high in the entrance, and alabaster lamps by Rok Towa sat stylishly on a side table in a hallway. Newcomer Oliver Myrie also had a few pieces on show, along with works by poetic sculptor Laura Facey.

Outside the main viewing area were items for a silent auction, whose proceeds are to go toward children suffering from scoliosis. Scotiabank scholarship winner Kordell Clarke, who once suffered from scoliosis, was in attendance along with special guest speaker Dr Ian Neil, orthopaedic and spine surgeon.

While 1876 wines poured vino, and guests sampled hors d’oeuvres by Michele Williams, all in attendance were treated to a creative dance presentation by the National Dance Theatre Company, as well as a selection of songs performed by the soulful Myrna Hague, who was accompanied by musician Desi Jones and his ensemble.

Following the performances, drawings by talented portrait artist Aeron Cargill were presented to singer Myrna Hague and the NDTC dancers. Cargill himself was on hand at the event, with easel and sketchpad to demonstrate his exceptional talents with charcoal and pencil.
