LONDON, England (CMC) — England selectors have included injured Test seamer Stuart Broad in a 30-man training squad announced Saturday for next year’s Cricket World Cup in Asia.

Broad was forced to cut short his Ashes tour of Australia last week with an abdominal injury but has gained the nod in the group which will be cut in half by January 19.

The squad comprises all the players named recently in the One-Day International squad for Australia and eight members of the England Lions squad that will contest the WICB first-class Championship next February.

“We have selected a squad of players with a strong track record in limited overs cricket either for England or in the domestic game,” said selector Geoff Miller.

“Recent series have shown we have made progress in One-Day cricket and we will be looking to continue this form during next year’s World Cup and challenge for another global title.

“There is still some time to pass before the final squad is selected so all 30 players have sufficient time to press for selection.”

England will clash with West Indies, South Africa, India, Bangladesh, the Netherlands and Ireland in Group B at the February 19 to April 2 showpiece in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

England are scheduled to play two warm-up games against Canada and Pakistan before opening their World Cup campaign on February 22 against the Netherlands in Nagpur, India.
