Lion snatch win against Benfica
DRAX HALL, St Ann — Humble Lion won back-to- back games for the first time since the 10th round of matches in the Digicel Premier League after edging Benfica 1-0 in their second-round game played at Drax Hall on Sunday in a game between two struggling clubs.
Defender Tyrone Sawyers scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute to repeat the scoreline from their previous meeting. He scored by latching on to a corner and drilled the ball pass goalkeeper Donovan Hynes.
Despite picking up six valuable points in their last two games after beating rock bottom St Georges 2-0 in their previous encounter, the Clarendon-based Humble Lion are not out of the drop zone as they are on 19 points and will spend at least one more round in the bottom two.
Humble Lion are reported to be on the verge of a major overhaul of their roster, dumping several veteran players. Promoted Benfica have also had their share of problems.
