THE Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) received a major boost in it’s crime fighting efforts following the donation of eight motorbikes from Carreras Limited at an event held at the Office of the Commissioner, Old Hope Road, Kingston yesterday.

The bikes are in addition to five previously donated by Carreras last year. The 13 bikes are valued at approximately $7m.

Minister of National Security, Dwight Nelson said the bikes will greatly assist the JCF in it’s quick-response capabilities. He also said the bikes were important in accommodating the changing roles of police officers in the line of duty.

“Though the concept of law enforcement has been around since time immemorial, the roles and duties of police personnel have changed and as such bikes have become a critical tool in the modern policing activities of the force,” the Minister said.

Police Commissioner Owen Ellington said the new motorbikes would be assigned to the Mobile Reserve, with a primary focus on protecting commercial interests.

“This, the addition of the motorcycles will certainly help to boost the authorities’ crime fighting abilities,” Ellington said.

Meanwhile Chairman for the Standing Committee on National Security of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), Major George Overton, also lauded Carreras’ contribution.

He indicated that with contributions such as these, the country can only move forward in the fight against crime and violence.
