Cocktails with — Dahlia Harris

Sports presenter and actress Dahlia Harris stars in her own production Judgement opposite Deon Silvera and Andre Morris, which opens today, Boxing Day, at the Pantry Playhouse in New Kingston. The thespian sneaked away from dress rehearsals to share cocktails and, dare we say, cackles at her favourite watering hole, Cuddyz…

What are you sipping?

A Mud Wrestler.

What kind of day are you having?

A 56-hour day between dress rehearsals and regular Christmas stuff!

Socialite or homebody?

Socialite, always.

TV or good book?

TV.

What are you watching?

Still, Lord of the Rings.

Jeans or LBD?

Jeans!

Flats or stilettos?

Flats; I’m over six feet tall!

What’s your style?

Practical and conservative.

What’s in your handbag?

My BlackBerry and Samsung phones, and my car keys. But I usually also have Mentos.

Who does your hair?

Karen at Beauty Flair, located at Southdale Plaza.

Who does your nails?

Kim at Beauty Flare.

Where’s the best place

to find you?

The theatre, any one of them!

What perfume are you spraying?

Gucci Guilty.

What’s your idea of the

perfect date?

I’m a creature of simple habits: dinner and a movie. And bonus points if he talks enough through dinner, so we don’t have to talk through the movie.

What’s your idea of the perfect man?

Intelligent with a good sense of humour.

What’s in your car stereo?

A dancehall mix-tape featuring Lady Saw, Gyptian, and a host of others.

What do you love most

about the stage?

Entertaining people; so if the theatre is empty (tonight) I know I’m pop-down.

What’s your latest obsession?

Producing and writing plays.

Your commercial debut as a playwright is Judgement, which opens today (Boxing Day), what’s the process been like?

Very tiresome but rewarding.

What’s it like being a relative newcomer to the process of producing?

It’s challenging, particulary because I don’t have most of the resources that other established producers do, but that just means my job is more interesting because I get to try different approaches.

What projects are you

working on?

Right now, apart from the play I’m working on a reading show for TV.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

If you believe in something don’t stop until you achieve it, and have faith in God.

What’s your New Year’s mantra?

Don’t worry, be happy and everything will work itself out in due time.
