New Green, Comfort kick-off Manchester Major League
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — The 2011 season of the Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Manchester Major League competition gets underway this afternoon with a double-header at Brooks Park, starting at 1:30 pm.
In the feature game at 3:00, newcomers Comfort take their bow against New Green after Georges Valley and demoted Super League outfit Hillstars meet in the curtain-raiser.
The competition, which is being sponsored for the eighth consecutive year by the Captain’s Bakery to the tune of $1.2 million, continues in midweek with two more games.
Nine teams — two more than last year — will battle for championship honours, which will yield $195,000 in prize monies and provide a passage to the South Central Confederation Super League.
They will first compete on a home and away basis, after which the top four teams on points advanced to the semi-finals to be played over two legs.
