Good performances at PUMA/Kirkvine Meet
KIRKVINE, Manchester — The Kirkvine Puma JAAA Development Meet had some excellent performances, with some eight meet records broken and the teams from Edwin Allen, Holmwood, Vere Technical, St Jago, and Kingston College showing early signs of progress.
Saturday’s meet was aborted with late afternoon rain ending the 400 metres, as only the Class Three girls 400 metres took place, but there is concern about the level of preparedness of our athletes at this early stage as many female athletes fell and sought medical care with the change of weather after their events.
Records went in the Class Four girls 200m courtesy of Satanya Wright (STETHS) 24.80 seconds; Edwin Allen’s Saqukine Cameron 23.40, who returned 59.70 for second in the 400m; Carifta champion Shericka Jackson (Vere) with 23.80 in Class Two; Mellissa Wallace’s 24.30 of Swept Track Club (200m open); Jamaica College’s Devaughn Baker 23.10 (Class Three boys 200m); Denval Daley’s (STETHS) 21.60 (Class Two boys 200m); Kingston College’s Trevane Morrison’s 21.70 (Class One boys 200m); UTech’s Darrell Garwood’s 21.2 200m open men.
Other winners include Clarendon College’s Brian Smith, 2 minutes 1.3 seconds; Class 2 Herbert Thomas (Munro) 2 minutes 5.20; Webster Pennant St Jago 2 minutes 11.80; Rasheed Lewis Jonathan Grant (Open) 1 minute 58.1; in the girls Class Three Althea McLaughlin (STETHS) 2 minutes 22.90; Class Two Chris Ann Gordon (Holmwood) 2 minutes 18.8; Class One Chantal Duncan (Vere) 2 minutes 18.6 and Chantae Roberts (GC Foster) 2 minutes 23.1.
