Necessary Luxury – Camille Needham
Executive Director – Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA)
Firstly, there’s my Ray Ban aviator shades. These were a gift from my husband, Merrick, in 1987. They are still going strong and the shape never goes out of style. I take them with me everywhere, especially on my frequent trips to attend to JHTA meetings and functions in the resort areas, as they make the journey seem shorter and more enjoyable. Then there’s my Fashion Fair lipstick in Brown Sugar. I use other brands but this is one of my favourites as it is very versatile and blends well with other colours. My wine glass holder with clip to hold a plate — attended a function hosted by Edwin Charley a few years ago and it was a giveaway. I found it to be a particularly useful keepsake, as it allows me to hold my wine and plate with one hand and also network with ease. Since then it has been a mainstay in my handbag.
As you can appreciate, I always need to carry an ample supply of business cards for the many meetings, trade shows and events that I attend. Can you imagine what it would be like at an event like Caribbean Marketplace, with some 1300 delegates minus business cards? God bless the person who invented them.
Bath & Body Works hand lotion — one of my favourite brands and this particular scent, Japanese Cherry Blossom, is also one of my many necessary luxuries.
Finally, my Digicel BlackBerry. For years I used a “plain old cellphone” but now I have discovered the joys of owning a Digicel BlackBerry. I am so happy I upgraded as I am now able to send e-mails, schedule appointments and keep in touch with business associates, friends and family.
