Wadadah, Seba seek midseason glory
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Seba United and Wadadah will renew their rivalry this afternoon in the midseason final of the Captain’s Bakery/Western Confederation Super League at 4 o’clock at Jarrett Park.
Both teams have dominated the Super League so far and have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack as they seek to make it a two-team race for the title and a place in the JFF Confederation play-offs for a place in the Premier League next season.
Seba lead the tables at the break with 29 points from their nine wins and two draws — three more than Wadadah’s 26 points, and whose only blemish came at the hands of Seba United.
The Montego Bay clubs have also dominated the goalscoring race as well, with Seba United’s Kemar James scoring 13 of his team’s 29 goals and Wadadah’s Curtis Palmer two adrift from his team’s tally of 23 goals.
Seba won their only meeting so far — a 2-1 margin coming just before the Christmas break — and will be favoured to retain the title they won against eventual champions Reno FC last season.
Wadadah have won just one of their last five games against Seba in the Super League over the past three seasons, but have their best team in many years and could make Seba work hard.
Palmer, Damion Reid, Chad Plummer and Isaac Brown are expected to lead the Wadadah attack as they come up against the best defence in the competition that has conceded just three goals from 11 games so far.
On paper, the Danilo Barriga-coached Seba look superior, man-to-man, and Wadadah could have problems containing the strike pair of James and Jermie Bucknor — who has seven goal to his credit.
Seba are also well served in the midfield where captain Deshaun Woolery and the veteran Omar Reid will be roaming.
The game will be a play-to-the-finish affair, with extra-time and penalty kicks to be implemented if necessary.
