MVP Brown eyes Under-20 spot

RUSEA’S High School striker Brian Brown is hoping his receipt of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2010 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup competition will help to propel him to a place in the national Under 20 team.

Brown and his team mates were rewarded for winning the daCosta Cup competition at the awards ceremony held at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston yesterday.

Brown who also copped two scoring awards, led Rusea’s to the title, beating first time finalists Lennon High 1-0 in extra time in the final, said he was suprised to be named for the award.

“I feel good because I was not expecting this award,” he told reporters after the ceremony.

He said he hoped the award will give him some more visibility. “I think this will push me more and help the coaches for the national Under 20 team to see me and select me for the squad,” he said.

Brown also won the award for most goals in the competition with 20 overall. He shared the Golden Boot award with St James High’s Allan Ottey, both with nine goals post first round.

Rusea’s was also given the award for being the top defensive team in the daCosta Cup.
