Long Lane, St Andrew to be temporarily closed this weekend

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists and residents that a section of Long Lane along Stony Hill Road in St Andrew will be closed this weekend to facilitate critical road repair works.

The closure will affect the area near the Lane Landings housing complex and will take effect from 10:00 pm on Friday, June 5, 2026, until 3:00 am on Monday, June 8, 2026.

According to NWA Manager of Communication and Customer Services, Stephen Shaw, investigations conducted at the location revealed a failure of the road’s subgrade caused by unsuitable soil conditions. He explained that water seeping from nearby limestone hills into the underlying soils has further weakened the roadway, leading to deterioration of the road surface.

Shaw said the repair project, which is expected to span approximately eight weeks, will involve excavating and removing the defective subgrade material and replacing it with approved fill material.

The temporary road closure is required to facilitate the excavation and restoration of the affected section, the NWA said, adding that once the structural repairs are completed, the roadway will be resurfaced with asphaltic concrete.

Motorists travelling towards Stony Hill are being encouraged to use the designated diversion route via Old Stony Hill Road. Drivers should turn right at Mountain Slope onto Ridgefield Avenue, continue along Ridgefield Avenue, then turn right onto Bridgemount Park Avenue and left onto Fourwinds Avenue before rejoining Long Lane. Motorists travelling in the opposite direction should follow the same route in reverse.

The NWA apologised for any inconvenience the works may cause and urged road users to plan their journeys accordingly and exercise caution while travelling in the area during the construction period.
