JPS moving slow to fix low-voltage problem, says ‘frustrated’ client
Dear Claudienne
I reside in Sue River district, St Mary. I built a house and applied to the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) for electricity. The government Electricity Inspectorate came and did an inspection and gave the approval for me to get the service.
However, three times in 2009 the JPS came to install the meter but said it could not be done because the voltage was low. The JPS promised to rectify the problem but up to now (December 2010) I still have no electricity because of the low voltage problem. I went to the JPS Ruthven Road office and they sent me to the Spanish Town office but nothing has happened.
I was hoping to have the meter installed before Christmas. I am fed up and frustrated.
Could you please help me.
JW
Dear JW
Tell Claudienne informed the JPS of the frustrations you were experiencing. Since we contacted the JPS, the regional director has sent their operations crew to the Sue River area several times to determine the cause of the low-voltage problem.
We note that they have since fixed the low-voltage problem but were unable to install the meter because the meter socket was corroded and needed cleaning. You told us that your electrician cleaned the meter socket and that you informed the JPS customer service that it was cleaned but they had not returned to install the meter.
The JPS has advised us that before the meter can be put in you will also need to have the electrician fix the neutral lug. The JPS said that they phoned and left a voicemail message for you to call them, but they have not heard from you.
However, we note that your phone was stolen and that you did not get the message.
Please call them as soon as the neutral lug has been fixed so that they can install the meter.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne
I live in the US. I applied for a marriage certificate at the Registrar General’s Department office in Spanish Town, St Catherine in September 2010. I paid $2,550 for the seven-day service. A copy of the old marriage certificate was also given to the RGD at the time of payment.
However, each time I check with the RGD office I am told that the application is being processed.
The certificate is urgently needed as I have filed for my son in Jamaica and the Immigration Service Department needs it.
I would appreciate your help.
HS.
Dear HS
Tell Claudienne has been in communication with a government agency that monitors the RGD in regard to your query. We note that you have now received the marriage certificate.
Good luck.
