WESTERN Jamaica Campus population will showcase the cultural diversity of their respective nations during ‘Flavours of the Caribbean’ today, on the university’s grounds.

Flavours of the Caribbean will be the first such multi-cultural showcase event for the three-year-old Western Jamaica Campus.

Director of the Western Campus, Michael Williams says while an event of this nature is customary for the Mona Campus, it holds special significance for Montego Bay, as the Western Jamaica Campus (WJC) moves forward to assert itself in the region as the multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary campus, which the University of the West Indies is known for.

Patrons can expect informative and entertaining presentations of music, dance and drama, distinctive to Jamaica, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and guest country Venezuela. They will also get to sample some of the authentic national dishes including macaroni pie, pelau and crab cakes.

Andrew Anguin, campus chairman of the student body at WJC, says he hopes the event will become an annual one on the university’s calendar of events, and will go a long way in fostering appreciation for differences, by exposing students to the culture of their peers.

The event gets underway at 2:00 pm and is open to the public to see, taste, feel, and experience the ‘Flavours of the Caribbean’. The university community and the public are invited to be a part of this Caribbean fest.

The international culture fest is being hosted by the university’s final-year public relations students in association with the Campus Committee.
