Less accidents, less usage on toll roads
THE Toll Authority Report 2008/2009 has shown that there was a 33 per cent reduction in fatalities from collisions on the toll roads and a 1.3 per cent decrease in collisions along the road network during that period.
Minister with responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz, said the report also showed a 4.8 per cent reduction in daily usage of the roads, 26 per cent increase in light injuries and a two percentage increase in serious injuries.
“An inspectorate was introduced to improve the monitoring function of the authority and a comprehensive research on the toll road legislative framework was submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Works,” Vaz added.
He was speaking at the post cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House yesterday.
He said Minister of Transport and Works, Mike Henry, will table the annual report in Parliament at a later date.
