DUB poets No-Maddz recorded a three-hour live album and DVD on Sunday to hundreds of howling females at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.

The recording commemorated the group’s 11th anniversary but also showcased its sizeable fan base. It is rare that poets have a fanbase much less paying supporters.

Sunday’s performance featured new and existing singles by the group including Poo Poku, So Dem Seh, Justified and so on. The proceeds of Sunday’s performance will benefit EVE for Life — dedicated to supporting women and children living with the AIDS virus and also the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

The album will be released through Nomaddic Movement. Sound engineers include Franklyn Bell and Marlon Moving with videography by DSE Media (Mykal Kushnie) and other technicans include Gareth Daley and Kurt Wright.

The group, formed in 2000 released their debut album The Trod in 2010. No-Maddz comprises Sheldon Shepherd, Everaldo Creary, Christopher Gordon, and O’neil Peart. All members are recipients of the prestigious Jamaican Prime Minster Youth Award for excellence in the field of Arts and Culture — awarded in 2006, 2005, 2009, 2007 respectively — and are graduates of Kingston College.

The group earned an endorsement deal with athletic apparel giant Puma as Rocker, Flex and Groove faces of the Faster is Funner campaign. The group was also nominated by the Excellence in Music & Entertainment Awards in the category of best group for 2011.

The group is said to have recorded a perfect score in the annual Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s performing arts festival. The success in the festival competitions led the group to pursue a professional career in theatre and film. Two of the members of No-Maddz, Shepherd and Creary starred in the recent local flick Better Mus’ Come, an action film about politics and gun violence in Jamaica in the 70s.
