Seba cop Western Confed Super League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Seba United on Sunday won the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League when they beat rivals and mid-season champions Wadadah 1-0 in their return round game at the UDC field.
The former Premier League champions won their second Confederation title as they improved to an unassailable 50 points with four games to go.
An own goal in the 20th minute proved to be the decider as they beat Wadadah for the second time this season despite losing the mid-season final to their long time rivals.
Wadadah had a slim hope of overhauling Seba but needed to win on Sunday, and dominated the second half of the game for long periods.
Christopher Currie tested Seba’s goalkeeper Tristan Bernard with a free-kick midway the second half, but the custodian was equal to it, turning it around the post for a corner.
Seba had a late chance to increase the score, but after beating two defenders, Garth Johnson hit the crossbar with a delicately chipped shot.
Exidos of Trelawny, meanwhile, joined Hanover’s Cousin’s Cove as the relegated teams after they were beaten 3-1 by Harmony.
Everette Mullings, Ricardo Reid and Oshane Spence scored for Harmony who moved up to sixth place on 27 points, while Zeko Clarke scored for Exidos.
Mt Pelier moved to fourth place on 28 points after a 2-0 win over Granville, while Russia continued to try to stave off relegation with a 4-1 win over Cousin’s Cove.
Kingsley James scored twice for the Westmoreland team, while Kevar Thomas and Roan Wilson got the other goals.
In one other game played Catherine Hall and Tomorrow’s People ended 0-0.
