LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Ailing actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was rushed to hospital after being “inconsolable” following the death of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor, declaring, “I’m next”, her spokesman said Thursday.

The 94-year-old, who had her right leg partially amputated in January, spent the day in Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, after Taylor’s death at the age of 79.

“She took Elizabeth Taylor’s death badly,” spokesman John Blanchette told AFP, saying her blood pressure went up dangerously.

“She was watching the news yesterday morning, she was inconsolable. She said to her husband: ‘Celebrities always go in threes, we’ve had Jane Russell, now it’s Elizabeth, I’m next’,” he said, referring to GI pin-up’s death in February.

Her husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt called doctors who said she needed treatment. “So she went into the hospital yesterday morning, and was there all day, and they calmed her down and got her blood pressure under control.

“She went home again last night,” he added.

Gabor knew Taylor well and lived only a few blocks away from her in the swanky Bel Air neighbourhood, he said.

“They were friends. They were married to Hiltons at the same time. Elizabeth was married to Nicky and she was married to Conrad,” she said of the socialite and hotel empire family.

Gabor’s long career includes spots in a dozen films and TV series, including John Huston’s 1952 Moulin Rouge and the 1958 film noir Touch of Evil by Orson Welles. She also lent her voice to several animated films and TV series.

But the platinum blonde is especially known for her flamboyant lifestyle, legal troubles, nine marriages and a propensity to call just about everyone “darling” with her distinctive accent.
