Facey only J’can winner at Florida meet
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Simone Facey was the only Jamaican individual winner at last weekend’s University of Central Florida Invitational in Orlando, Florida.
The former Vere Technical sprinter won the 200m in 23.07 seconds, third fastest in the world so far this season, cruising to the line ahead of American Mary Wineberg, who ran 23.54 seconds after winning the 400m ahead of another Jamaican Veronica Campbell Brown earlier on Saturday.
Facey, who is based in Florida, was competing for the Lance Braumann coached Pure Athletics.
Another Jamaican, Sheryl Morgan, who also ran the 400m earlier on Saturday, finished well down the field in the 200m in 24.44 seconds.
Richard Phillips was the best placed Jamaican in the men’s 200m, finishing in sixth place in 21.50 seconds, while Sekou Clarke was ninth in 21.70 seconds.
A Pure Athletics team that included Nickel Ashmeade, Ramone McKenzie and Steve Mullings won the men’s 4x400m relays in three minutes 07.81 seconds.
