Portmore, SCA still atop Under-21 League
PORTMORE United and Sporting Central stayed atop the JFF Under-21 standings after scoring identical 2-0 victories over Boys Town and Tivoli Gardens, respectively, on Friday.
However Tivoli Gardens, who were tied on 55 points with Portmore and Sporting Central coming into the weekend’s 29th round, now slip three points behind leaders Portmore, who are ahead on goal difference, and Sporting Central with 58 points each.
In other games, Humble Lions beat Waterhouse 1-0; Reno got by Benfica 1-0; Village United stopped Harbour View 2-1, and Arnett Gardens and St Georges drew 0-0.
At the Edward Seaga Complex, substitute Tremaine Skyers scored with his first touch a minute after coming off the bench in the 51st minute for Portmore. He added an insurance goal for the visitors with his second goal of the game in the 64th.
At Collie Smith Complex, Vincent Mitchell scored both goal for the visitors, netting in the 21st and 54th to keep his team among the frontrunners.
At Effortville, Humble Lion turned back Waterhouse on Michael Moreland’s added-time strike, while Jeffrey Leslie scored five minutes from time for Ren against Benfica at Drax Hall.
Defending champions Harbour View lost further ground on the title chasers after going 2-0 down to Village, through goals from Ronaldo Rodney (eight) and Kenroy Thompson (69th), at Elletson Wakeland Centre.
And though Dean Phillips pulled a goal back for Harbour View immediately at the restart, the hosts held on for the three points.
Harbour View remained fourth in the standings, 10 points adrift of the leaders. Arnett Gardens and Humble Lion occupy fifth with 45 points, followed by Reno with 41, then Waterhouse with 40, and Village and St Georges on 30.
Boys’ Town sit second-from-bottom with 20 points and Benfica last on 14.
