All-Stars topple Jaguars in Flow Basketball League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Centre Jermaine Rerrie scored 20 points and grabbed a season-high 36 rebounds to lead Catherine Hall All-Stars to a 71-56 win over Granville Jaguars in the second game of a double-header at the Montego Bay Cricket Club as the third round of the Flow National Basketball League-west got underway on Saturday.
The win avenged a second-round loss to Granville by Catherine Hall as well as extend their win streak to three games as they shared the lead with defending champions Hoopers, who beat Railway Tigers 73-60 in the first game.
Rerrie also had seven steals, five assists and five blocked shots for All-Stars, who trailed only after the first basket of the game before opening up an 11-3 lead mid-way the first quarter and lead 16-14 at the end of the first period.
They were up 30-27 at half-time and 45-40 going into the fourth quarter.
Goyan Malcolm and Marvin Powell both scored 15 points for Catherine Hall, while player/coach Kurt Dorman scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds.
Granville’s Leroy Lawrence led all scorers in the game with 24 points and 13 rebounds, Huwayne Blake scored 15 points, while Dave Black had 13 points.
In the first game, Railway made Hoopers work hard for the first three quarters before falling away in a frenetic fourth quarter and slumped to their fifth straight loss, ironically their last win coming against Hoopers in the first round.
After being assessed, two technical fouls before tip-off, Hoopers trailed 2-6 early before tying up the scores at 10-10 then led 17-10 before ending the first quarter leading 21-16.
Tigers roared back with a strong second quarter to lead 34-33 at the half-time break and trailed by just one point (45-46) at the end of the third quarter.
Hoopers, however, stamped their class on the game in the final quarter where they outscored Tigers by 13 points (27-14) for the win.
Kurt Comrie was the top scorer for Hoopers with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Antoneil Watson scored 18 points, while Chayne Topey came off the bench to score 16 points.
Tammy Davis, who committed two fouls late in the game to stop the clock before fouling out with 28 seconds to go, finished with 19 points for Tigers. Dorian Williams scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds, Detroy Jewery had 11 points. while Jason Blake chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
