Iwer was the boss
The 8th staging of the 2011 Once Upon a Dynasty Bacchanal Fridays presented ‘Soca Boss’ Iwer George. The Trinidadian artiste delivered a catalogue of waving frenzy soca tunes including Come to Meh, Ready, Carnival Come Back Again, Mash Up De Place, and Gimme a Bligh.
Though not packed to capacity as anticipated, those who were present at Mas Camp had ‘soca in their blood and veins’ as they sang and ‘palanced’ throughout the night. Perspiration was combined with purifed water when minutes into his performance Iwer George handed out dozens of bottled water to revellers, some taking a quick sip before drenching themselves and those close enough with the cold liquid.
Pure Country Premium blends coupled with Appleton Spirits were readily available for those who were lovers of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages alike.
Renaissance Disco’s DJ Smoke continued from where he left off before Iwer George’s performance, providing revellers with more ‘wicked’ soca and dancehall selections. The soca set continued to gyrate and palance with each other, with some not caring about who was their dance partner.
The ‘maad’ vibes inside of Mas Camp Bacchanal Fridays continued until just after 2:00 Saturday morning. The series is set to climax this Friday with Trinidadian soca powerhouse Kes and the Band.
As the 2011 Once Upon A Dynasty season winds down, the series will continue with Beach J’ouvert with Destra and her Band, Bacchanal Tuesday, Soca @ De Sandbar, Bacchanal J’ouvert with Bunji Garlin and Faye-Ann Lyons and the Bacchanal Road March.
Sponsors of this year’s series include Jamaica Observer, Digicel, Pure Country, Appleton Rum, Smirnoff, Renaissance, RETV, King Alarm, Ammars, TVJ, Heart Institute, Heineken, Supreme Ventures among others.
