Top stars for 4th UTech Track & Field Classic
SEVERAL of the island’s top locally trained athletes will be on show this afternoon at the Fourth staging of the UTech Track and Field Classic at the National Stadium starting at 4:00 pm.
Yohan Blake, who has run a blistering 20.39 seconds over the distance this season, will line up in the men’s 200m against former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell and his MVP teammate Nesta Carter.
Racer’s Track Club’s Daniel Bailey of Antigua and Mario Forsythe will also be in action in the 200m.
National champion Oshane Bailey is down for action in the men’s 100m in an event which will also feature Commonwealth Games sprint relay silver medallist Remaldo Rose, Kemar Bailey-Cole, Kemroy Anderson, and Barbados’ Stephen Headley.
MVP Track Club’s Sherone Simpson, Carrie Russell, and Anneisha McLaughlin are all down for action in the women’s 100m.

Reigning world champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton will be in action in her pet event, the 100m hurdles.
Olympic Games 400m hurdles semi-finalist Markino Buckley and his Racer’s teammate Josef Robertson are both down for action in their pet event.
2008 World Junior Championships competitor and national trials fourth-placed finisher Trish Ann Hawthorne will be among an overseas contingent from the University of Connecticut.
Hawthorne will run alongside Olympic 400m silver medallist Shericka Williams and Anastacia Leroy in the women’s 200m. Several athletes from the University of Manuel Fajado in Cuba will also be in action.
Events to be contested on the track include 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, men’s 1,500m, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x400m for male, female, high school, and collegiate athletes, and the 4x100m collegiate, Open, Prep, Primary, and High Schools male and female.
The field events include shot put, high jump, and men’s and women’s long jump.
Action begins at 4:30 following a brief opening ceremony at 4:00. There will be a cheer-leading competition at 3:00 featuring the top three finishers from the University of Technology’s Inter-Faculty competition.
