Fuelling science and technology
Hisatsugu Hirai, chairman of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), listens attentively as Penwood High School students (from 2nd left) Daynard Johnson, Garfield Nembhard, and Junior Gowa explain how their Super Critical Fuel Extractor works at yesterday’s national finals of the JPS Science & Technology Expo 2011 at the National Arena in Kingston. The finals featured 40 displays from 33 primary, preparatory and high schools across the island. At the end of the day, Spaulding High School — with its project entitled ‘Fish Scale Secrets’ which saw the students using fish scales to make glue and plastic — won the best overall display. Meanwhile, first place grade winners were Denham Town Primary, St Andrew Technical, and Clarendon College. (Photo: Karl McLarty)
