Muschett girls claim 4th Conference basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Muschett High won their fourth-straight ISSA/Western Conference Girls Open basketball title on Monday at the Montego Bay Cricket Club after a comprehensive 99-10 drubbing of Herbert Morrison Technical in the final.
Muschett dominated the scaled-down tournament and was beating the Montego Bay school for the third time this season as both advanced to Saturday’s National Play-offs at Manchester High School.
The Trelawny school, which had scored over 100 points in their first meeting with Herbert Morrison, scored the first 14 points of the game before ending the first quarter at 28-2 and was up 55-6 at half-time.
Despite the massive lead against the outgunned Herbert Morrison, the Muschett coach kept his top players in the game until the last three minutes, even as they outscored their opponents 25-0 in the final quarter.
Loretta Gordon led all scorers with 39 points and nine steals; Deszan McLaren scored 26 points; Stacian Facey scored 14 points, held 11 rebounds and had four steals and four assists; while Romian Smith scored 12 points.
Nekoda Hemmings scored six of Herbert Morrison’s 10 points.
