Reggae Boyz climb FIFA rankings
ZURICH, Switzerland (AP and Jamaica Observer) – The Reggae Boyz climbed nine places in the FIFA rankings to 55 after a quiet month on the international scene left the top 10 unchanged.
Jamaica, coached by Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, were ranked as high as 48 in March, the highest ranking the country has achieved since 2005.
Jamaica’s average position since the ranking system was created is 58.
The United States leads CONCACAF at No 22 going into the Gold Cup, which starts on June 5.
World Cup winners Spain are still ranked No 1. The Netherlands remained No 2, followed by Brazil, Germany and Argentina.
The only movement in the top 20 saw No 13 Chile switch places with Japan.
Only seven matches — all friendlies — have been played since the April rankings.
