Scott spares Seba against Highgate
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A brilliant late free-kick by Iton Scott helped home team Seba United salvage a point in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Eastern Confederation Super League champions Highgate in the second round of the JFF Premier League play-offs at Jarrett Park on Wednesday.
It was the second consecutive 1-1 draw for either team as they are tied on two points in second place behind leaders Cavaliers of KSAFA on four points, while South-Central champions Rivoli are on one.
Carlos Barrett gave Highgate the lead after the fifth minute and looked set to make it hold up against a disorganised-looking Seba team before Scott’s singular piece of brilliance in the 77th minute.
The Seba team that had to come from behind a second time after drawing 1-1 away to Cavalier in the opening game was without coach Danilo Barriga, who, it was heard, had walked out on the team the night before following a disagreement.
Former player Omar ‘Sleepy’ Clarke took over the reigns of the team in Barriga’s absence.
Seba started promisingly, but were on the backfoot when a defensive lapse saw Barrett rifle home the ball from just inside the 18-yard box past goalkeeper Tristan Bernard in just the fifth minute.
Desperate for at least an equaliser, Seba made three attacking changes, but it was midfielder Scott who made the difference, curling a left-footed free-kick from about 35 yards into the righthand corner of Murray’s net, with the big custodian rooted to the ground.
