Eastern All-Stars outshine Rowe’s Strikers
MANY-time champions Eastern All-Stars got the better of their perennial rivals Rowe’s Strikers 7-4 in last Sunday’s third round of the Wray and Nephew Skittles Zone A competition at the latter’s home venue on Molynes Road in Kingston.
After being two games down, Eastern fought back to level the scores through Lloyd ‘Tiger’ Smith and Man of the Match Clive Woolery, who beat Colin Chandai and Alton Young, respectively.
Rowe’s Strikers regained the ascendancy when Durrant ‘Busha’ Davis beat Glendon Gordon 1,350-650.
But that would prove the last hurrah for the home team as Keith Barrett, Robert Murphy, Gregory Gordon and Fitzroy ‘Paul’ Blair all held their nerve to outcue their opponents.
In other Zone A matches, Starliners Strikers rebounded from last week’s cancelled match to record a comprehensive 9-2 victory over Mistyx, while Dragon got by defending champions Eagles Strikers, 8-3.
In Zone B, Hangover lost by an 8-3 margin to The Dip in a Portmore affair, while Willies fought back from 4-2 down to grab the points from Mercury on the latter’s home table.
Mr C held on to win a nail-biting match against an improving Olympic Strikers.
The competition continues tomorrow with six matches at three venues.
