Super Stars need only a draw to advance
LOGWOOD, Hanover — Super Stars need only a draw in their final preliminary round game today against fellow contenders Logwood to advance to the semi-finals of the Hanover Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Major League.
Super Stars are in third place on 20 points and a draw would see them join qualifiers Lucea FC- 25 points and Jericho Rangers-24 points in the last four.
Four teams are vying for the two places available as Sandy Bay on 15 points with two games to play and outsiders Galaxy, who have completed their schedule with 19 points are also in the mix for a semi-final spot.
Sandy Bay could help their cause today when they take on second to last Haughton Meadows at Watson Taylor Park, while Jericho and Lucea will meet at Elgin Town in a match that could decide the top seed in the play-offs.
Jericho will have a game in hand after today’s game, but a win for Lucea would give them the top seed.
Jericho have scored 10 goals in their last two games and will be confident going into today’s game.
They blanked last-placed Haddington 6-0 last week before beating Sandy Bay 4-1 on Tuesday with goals coming from four different players.
Lucea were held 1-1 by Super Stars on Sunday.
