NCB Foundation scholarships open
MORE than 200 Jamaican students stand to benefit from the scholarships now on offer from the NCB Foundation (NCBF) for the next academic year, beginning in September.
Students from the primary through tertiary level of the education system have until June 17 to apply for the scholarships, the value for each of which has increased “in line with the cost of living and other socio-economic factors”.
Application to the scholarship programme is fully automated. Applicants are required to complete an online application form accessible at www.ncbfoundation.org with periodic updates being shared via Facebook at www.facebook.com/ncbfoundation. At the end of the application period, shortlisted applicants will be contacted and provided with additional information relating to the final selection process.
Last year, NCBF awarded 262 scholarships and grants, valued at over $14 million, to offset expenses for students pursuing their academic dreams. For the first time since the inception of the programme, two all-island champions were selected and awarded $500,000 each to cover school-related expenses. This will continue this year while the 14 parish champions to be selected will receive scholarships for the duration of their undergraduate programmes.
Outstanding academic performance, financial need and community involvement are the main criteria used to determine eligibility for an NCBF scholarship. Since the programme’s inception in 2006, the foundation has disbursed approximately $200 million in awards to students.
