16 to challenge for Caymanas feature

Competitive racing is again the order of the day at Caymanas Park today headlined by the $480,000 Henry George Harrison Snr Memorial Cup Restricted Allowance V feature of the 11-race card.

Restricted to native-bred four-year-olds upward (NW2), the event has attracted a maximum field of 16 and will be run over 1,300 metres at approximately 4:35 pm. First post at 12:15 pm.

Four other races of high interest are on the programme. Among them is the $715,000 Overnight Allowance test over 1,000 metres straight that has attracted a field of nine, including specialists Super Dave, Si Puedo, Antioch, Saragossa and Jaylen:

Also on the card are two divisions of maiden condition races for native-bred three-year-olds and the horsemen’s condiment — the $458,000 Alex’s Imports Ltd “Dig Out Handicap” closing event, along with the Overnight Allowance seventh race is the richest on the programme and the Henry George Harrison Snr ninth race anchor .

This, therefore, gives the 16-horse field main feature great scope for being competitive, but a winner is expected to emerge and from all indications, could come from among any number of runners who are not recent winners but who are primed to deliver.

Chief among them are Topless Angel, No Smoking, the disappointing Super Center, Miss Crystal and Stamp Of Authority. These runners for some reason or other have not lived up to their early promise but are here given a useful opportunity to get the one-win-only monkey off their backs and turn the lagging form around.

Super Center, a four-year-old bay colt by Region Of Merit out of For My Jet (Forsythe Boy) and bred at Orange Valley Estates, could be considered the most disappointing among the lot, but since taking orders from Paul Smith has been looking up and having worked well for the race could score a long overdue win.

Owned by Kid Fresh, trainer Smith has called for the feminine touch of claiming apprentice Georgina Sergeon.

Topless Angel, a four-year-old chestnut filly who looked rather useful as a three-year-old, failed to justify her promise as a four-year-old. She has faced the starter seven times for the season with no better finish than third over today’s distance.

Trained by Barrington Dawes, the chestnut daughter of Tracing out of Topless (Hell Raiser), has done nothing exciting since her last race on May 21, but will return even fitter and having her best finish over 1,200 metres on April 2, she could come into her own especially with a trophy at stake and leading jockey Shane Ellis remaining aboard.

No Smoking, a capable bay colt by Legal Process out of Let’s Hope (Rexon’s Hope), was highly-rated on last to win over 1,600 metres, but only flattered to deceive with a below par performance. Trained by Lawrence Freemantle for owner Lloyd Salmon, No Smoking ran then without his customary visors and finished fourth.

Stamp Of Authority has not won since winning over 600 metres as a two-year-old, but with a complete change of equipment and Lasix for the first time, the well-bred bay colt by Vanadium out of Sea Treaty (Law Of The Sea) and bred by Ruth Hussey, looks certain to give an improved performance with a trophy on offer. Trained by Anthony Nunes for owner Stephan Narinesingh, stable jockey Dick Cardenas will remain in the saddle.

Time Of Storm is one from among recent winners who has a decent shot at taking the event.
