Make-Up Tips From NYC

We’re sharing beauty notes from Permanent Cosmetics Studio & Boutique (PCSB) managing director Racquel Jenkins Moss-Solomon, who has just returned from the Big Apple where she attended the sixth staging of The MakeUp Show NYC at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Moss -Solomon attended the prestigious event as a member of five-time Emmy Award winning-make-up artist Eve Pearl’s team, and was also celebrity make-up artist Sam Fine’s ‘special Caribbean guest artist’.

The two-day event which was held on May 15 -17 afforded beauty professionals the opportunity to experience all that’s new in the industry, plus avail themselves of the huge discounts on products. Aestheticians are also taught everything from the fundamentals to complex techniques, and are able to connect with celeb artists one-on-one. There are also fashion shows, forums, product launches, seminars complete with live demonstrations, and all-day workshops conducted by some of the biggest names in different areas of the industry — television, theatre, fashion and editorial. It is the perfect avenue for beauty professionals to develop themselves and their craft.

“The MakeUp Show is always a good experience” shared Moss-Solomon “I like to go once in a while to learn new things, network, and keep abreast of what is happening in the beauty industry. There is always a lot of variety in the products, forums, demonstrations etc, and I like to be informed… learn all I can and bring the knowledge back home to share with fellow artists”. The Presenters:

Industry greats such as Pati Dubroff, Billy B, Same Fine, Jeanine Lobell, Eve Pearl, Dany Sanz, Rosemarie Swift, Maurice Stein, Crystal Wright, Michael DeVellis, James Vincent and Kevin James Bennett were among a host of beauty professionals who walked the floor at The MakeUp Show NYC 2011.

The Sponsors:

The sponsors, who were also among the exhibitors and presenters at the show included: The Powder Group, On Makeup Magazine, Make Up For Ever, Temptu Pro, Inglot, Stila, Crown Brush, Alcone, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, NARS Cosmetics, Make-Up Designory, Kevyn Aucoin, Embryolisse, Yves Saint Laurent, Senna Cosmetics, Glamcor, Dermalogica, Empire Beauty Schools and Youngblood Mineral just to name a few.

The Exhibitors:

Major beauty labels like Smashbox, Eve Pearl, Anastacia Beverly Hills, Yves St Laurent, Face Atelier, Chic Studios, Cosmix School, MAC cosmetics and Glimmer Body Art were among the extensive list of exhibitors at the two-day event.

Racquel’s Beauty Tips:

“Go soft — less is more, and that’s what’s in right now, the natural dewy look. Use your make-up to play up your best features and stick to natural hues that complement your skin tone. Browns are in for the eyes, as is lots of liner, smoky eyes in brown hues are a major hit. Coral creme blushes and bronzers are also hot right now. Just keep the look light and natural, and go for the glow… Soft and sweet is the look.”

We’re loving this high-fashion special effects make-up look.
