Wins for Carter, Tracey at JAAA All Comers Meet
BEIJING Olympics relay gold medallist Nesta Carter posted 10.27 seconds to win the men’s 100m at the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) All Comers Meet 3 at the GC Foster College for Physical Education and Sport on Sunday.
Carter, who lowered his personal best three times last season, beat national champion Oshane Bailey who clocked 10.30 seconds for second and Andrew Fisher who finished third in 10.40 seconds.
Schoolgirl Christania Williams posted 11.62 seconds to take the women’s equivalent ahead of Claudette Allen (10.92) and Melissa Williams (10.98).
National representative Shereefa Lloyd stopped the clock at 52.32 seconds to take the women’s 400m ahead of MVP’s Davita Prendergast in 53.37 and Anastasiya Leroy 53.93.
National champion Oral Thompson was beaten in the men’s 400m as he posted 46.05 seconds for second behind Michael Mason, who won in 45.9, while Peter Matthews was third in 46.10.
Meanwhile, former Edwin Allen student Ristananna Tracey continued her winning season taking victory this time over a shorter distance from 400m to 200m and she clocked 23.63 to win the women’s event ahead of Holmwood’s Janieve Russell 24.10 and Yanique Ellington of MVP 24.23.
Nicholas Maitland of UTech claimed the men’s 200m in a time of 21.14 to Hannukah Wallace (21.41) and Nicholas Watson (21.47).
Spalding High School’s Girls Simoya Campbell came in at 2:07.60 to win the 800m, beating Desreen Montaque (2:10.00) and Marleena Eubanks (2:16.57) into second and third.
Ricardo Cunningham’s time of 1:53.37 was good enough to win the men’s equivalent ahead of Rayon Lawrence (1:53.92) and Melvin Weller (1:54.38).
Schoolboy Sanjay Pantry of St Jago posted 4:09.35 to take the men’s 1,500m. Ivan Johnson of Swept (4:13.21) was second and Robert Thomas (4:26.44) was third.
In the field, Russell claimed the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.91m, while Ramon Cooper leapt 7.39m to take the men’s event. Leon Wray of UTech (7.07m) and Kingston College’s Clive Pullen (7.05m) were second and third, respectively.
Darrel Garwood and Kimberley Williamson won the men’ and women’s high jump events, respectively. Garwood cleared the bar at 2.05m, while Williamson cleared a height of 1.80m.
