Sinclair tops Blue Mountain Time Trial
EIGHTEEN-year-old Shaquille Sinclair won the Blue Mountain Time Trial Sunday by four seconds over another junior, 19-year-old Thailer Hill, in the gruelling 6.5-mile hill from the Blue Mountain Inn to the Irish Town Police Station.
In a task that requires a sturdy “engine” and a lean body weight, they showed their class by beating their nearest rival by 40 seconds, which was the experienced Cleveland Sharp.
Time Trial sponsors Cafe Blue were represented by Jason Sharp and Ayako Robinson, along with members of the Jamaica Cycling Federation who handed out cash prizes.
Sinclair clocked 24 minutes 18.25 seconds, ahead of Hill, 24:22.65 with Masters Sharp, who recorded 25:01.67. Hill, now competing with the Under-23s, is a category 1 & 2 rider.
In fourth and fifth place were category 3 & 4 riders Terence McNeil, who timed 25:07.97 and Courtney Cousins, 25:24.62.
Points were awarded to the top eight riders, which also included Tyrone Edwards, Michael Daley and Dervin Myers.
The next event on the cycling calendar is the new Montego Bay five-mile racing circuit for speedsters and strong men and women seeking to redeem themselves on a flatter terrain, after Blue Mountain’s steep grade.
