Women’s KO draw pits Barbican against Portmore
Defending Sherwin Williams Colourscape Knockout women’s football champion Barbican will open their account in this season’s tournament against arch-rivals and former winners Portmore Strikers on Wednesday at Barbican field starting at 3:00 pm.
The long-time rivals were pitted against each other for the feature match of the round following the Colourscape KO draw at the JFF offices on Thursday.
In other games, Waterhouse will take on Los Perfectos at Brooks Park, which means all four semi-finalists from last season will be facing each other on the opening day of the competition.
In other games, St Thomas entertain Olympic Gardens at York Oval, UWI play Santos at UWI Bowl and Trelawny Women take on Harbour View at Elliston Wakeland Centre. All starting at 3:00 pm.
The National Under-17 team has been excluded and will not participate in this competition.
Teams will play each other only once with the winning teams from the five games advancing to the second round.
After the five qualifiers have been decided, a second draw will then take place to give three of the qualifiers a bye to the next round.
The two remaining teams in the draw will then enter a play-off on July 27, with the winner joining the three teams that received byes in the semi-finals.
The successful semi-finalists will then contest the decider, with the champions set to take home $100,000. Second place will receive $60,000, third place $40,000 and fourth place $30,000.
The MVP for the tournament will take home a cash prize of $15,000 and the top-scorer for the tournament, $10,000.
Meanwhile, Barbican could secure their place in the mid-season final of the league, which continues this afternoon with five games.
Barbican, who have dropped only two points in eight matches, will play away to lowly UWI at UWI Bowl, their main challenger Portmore Strikers also play away to St Thomas Strikers at York Oval, Olympic Gardens entertain Los Perfectos at Barbican field, Trelawny Women host Waterhouse at Elliston Wakeland Centre and Harbour View tackle Santos at Harbour View.
All games start at 3:30 pm.
