Sporting move closer to U-17 semis
HAYES, Clarendon — Sporting Athletic improved their chances of advancing to the semi-final of the Claro/Clarendon Under-17 football competition following a narrow 1-0 defeat of Humble Lion at Wembley on Sunday.
Alex Bennett netted the all-important goal in the 25th minute of play as Sporting leapfrogged Humble Lion (three) atop Group B on four points.
The Clarendon Park side now only need to avoid defeat in their last game against Jamalco to seal a last-four berth.
Humble Lion, on the other hand, need a win against Rio United to secure their place, although a point could also be good enough to see them through, depending on results elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the other Group B encounter between Rio and Jamalco at Edwin Allen was not played because of a waterlogged field, as did the Group A game between York Town and Wood Hall.
