12-Star shine in St James season’s opener
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Last season’s beaten finalists 12-Star opened their account in the St James Netball Association’s Hunger Buster/Impact Auto Senior League on Sunday with an easy 47-21 win over a short-handed Starlight-A in a Zone B game at Montego Bay Boys Club.
Starlight started with just five players until a sixth turned up in the third quarter, but had little defence against 12-Star, who led from the start.
Also on Sunday, Pacers Juveniles scored a big 49-21 win over Angels B in a Zone A game, while on Saturday, Pacers A beat Angels A, 40-34, and Blazers beat Starlight Juniors, 42-24.
The results leave a three-way ties for first place in both groups — defending champions Crystal United, Blazers and Pacers Juvenile are on three points in Zone A, while 12-Star, Angels A and Pacers are all on three points in Zone B.
On Sunday, 12-Star jumped out to the lead after the first quarter, 12-3, and were ahead 21-12 at half-time and 35-18 after the third quarter.
Jodie McPherson scored 24 goal for 12-Star and Crystalee Carter scored 23 goals, while Shanice Howell led Starlight with 18 goals.
In the second game, Blazers outscored Starlight Juniors, 25-12, between the second and third quarters to run out easy winners, with Monique Bingham scoring 30 goals and Nekeisha Ferron, 12.
On Saturday, Pacers A used four shooters as Samantha Daley scored 30 goals in their 40-34 win as Nicole Fletcher scored 20 for the losers.
Pacers Juveniles had their way with Angels B in the other game on Saturday, with Georgia Reid leading the way with 33 goals. Sheena Lawson scored nine and Shanice Rhodes, seven goals.
