Regional umpires converge on St Lucia
THE West Indies Cricket Umpires’ Association (WICUA) biennial convention in St Lucia got underway on Friday and will run until July 22.
Comprising umpires from across the Caribbean and North America, Jamaica’s delegation will consist of a 28 representatives to be led by the current president of WICUA, Steve Bucknor.
Other executives of WICUA down to attend the eight-day event are honorary secretary Vivian Johnson, area vice-president Cecil Fletcher, assistant secretary/treasurer Norman Malcom, delegates Hugh Fogo and Audley Bailey.
Discussions are expected to be centered on the topics of new laws and playing conditions, decision review system, the present status of West Indies cricket, umpires fees and election of officers.
President Bucknor will not be seeking re-election. Cecil Fletcher of Jamaica and former president Hartley Reid of Barbados will be vying for this position.
The convention will culminate with a cricket match on Thursday July 21and the president’s banquet a day later.
