Invaders cop National Rums Trelawny Major League
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Invaders were crowned Trelawny Football Association’s National Rums of Jamaica Major League champions on Wednesday after clipping Kinloss 1-0 in their return leg final played at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
The former champions won the title 2-1 on aggregate after the first leg finished 1-1 on Sunday.
Jordane Clarke’s first-half goal was enough for the former Premier League campaigners to go one better than last season when they were runners-up in the Major League.
They will join St James’ Fogo United and Savannah United of Westmoreland in the Western Confederation Super League next season.
Clarke gave Invaders an early lead after he poked home a ball from a melee in the eighth minute after Kinloss failed to get the ball out of their defensive area.
After a dull first half, Kinloss turned up the intensity in the second half and forced Invaders back into their own defensive area for long periods.
Kinoss’ response was led by Ronique Haynes and Girvent Dixon, but they failed to get the equaliser.
Invaders were completing a long comeback after the club dropped out the Premier League after in 2003 after two seasons and became defunct before it was reformed several seasons ago and restarted from the Division Two level.
