Snow Hill drub Buff Bay 5-0 to take Portland VMBS U-15 title
Carder Park, Portland — A hat-trick from Ricardo Barrett helped Snow Hill defeat Buff Bay United 5-0 to take the Portland Football Association Victoria Mutual Under-15 title at Carder Park last Thursday afternoon.
Barrett scored in the 39th, 45th and 51st minutes, to add to goals by Denroy Nelson in the 74th and Jason Wilson a minute later.
Snow Hill, after leading the attack through Jason Wilson and Travis Amore, finally got on the scoresheet just before the half ended when Barrett picked up a ball midway the half, saw goalkeeper Dillon Pecco off his line and hit a long-range shot in the roof of the net.
Buff Bay came out attacking through Jaborie Lewis, Kristoff Maylor and Al Gordon, but they were kept at bay by Rojay Hunter, Dushan Barrett and Quancy Walters. Snow Hill went further ahead when Barrett got his second as he was at the end of two rebounds off Pecco. His hat-trick was six minutes later when he beat two defenders and fired home.
Barrett assisted in the fourth when Nelson made no mistake from his pass, and a minute later Wilson scored from close range.
Winning coach Shamor Troop was thankful for the victory. “The pace was good and we worked hard for this and we give thanks for this victory.”
Dillon White, Buff Bay’s coach was a disappointed man: “We gave up after the goal was scored; so we have to do better next time.”
Cecile McCormack, regional manager eastern region of Victoria Mutual, was pleased with her company’s involvement in the competition. “It was an enjoyable game and we are happy with the outcome, as we support the young in the community for their development.”
Meanwhile, the Portland FA president Raymond Grant, said: “The organisation of the competition was good and the performance was good… the discipline of the players was also good as there were minimal cards issued by the referees.”
