FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — Local-based newcomers Errol Stevens or Arnett Gardens and Portmore United’s Ewan Grandison, joined overseas-based Jermaine Taylor and Omar Daley as the Reggae Boyz had a training session yesterday in preparation for their 7:00 pm (Jamaican time) match against Colombia tomorrow.

Striker Stevens, 25, and Grandison 20, replaced Troy Smith and Andrew Vanzie, who both came on as substitutes against Ecuador, but returned home Saturday.

Meanwhile, Taylor, who missed the Ecuador game because of visa issues, arrived at the Holiday Inn here while training was in progress, quickly changed and joined his teammates for the last half an hour.

Lovell Palmer of US Major League Portland Timber and Jason Morrison of Norwegian outfit Aalesunds FK are expected to join the squad.

“We have young Grandison and Stevens for the first time in the senior team, Taylor has just joined us, another plus for the team in a very important game,” said head coach Theodore Whitmore.

Jamaica are coming off back-to-back losses to China (0-1) and Ecuador (2-5) and a livid Whitmore had promised to find players with the right mental attitude to perform under adverse condition.

“Based on our last performance in the Ecuador game, we definitely have to make amends for the upcoming Colombia game,” noted Whitmore, who was losing two-in-a-row for the first time since taking over the head coaching role in 2008.

Steven, a powerful forward who just signed with Arnett Gardens and young midfielder Grandison, trained with their new teammates and looked comfortable.

“It’s a work in progress and we want to widen the pool and have a large contingent which we can select from going into the World Cup qualifiers,” said Whitmore.

“We can’t only look at players against Caribbean teams, now is the time to come and show what they have,” he added.

With Colombia defeating Costa Rica 2-0 on Saturday night, the Reggae Boyz continued their preparation at the Holiday Inn field, in ideal conditions, returning to sea level.

“Today’s (Yesterday’s) training was very lively and I saw a different attitude from the players and I only hope they can bring this tothe game on Tuesday night,” Whitmore ended.
