Bolt says sorry too
TRIPLE world record holder Usain Bolt, has joined his training partner, 100 metres champion Yohan Blake, and apologised to Jamaica for his behaviour during the playing of the National Anthem at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea on Sunday.
Blake and Bolt, who also won the men’s 200 metres, were caught on camera joking around while the anthem played after they had collected their gold medals for their record breaking 4×100 metres sprint relay record.Related story:
“I would like to apologise for what could have seemed to be inappropriate behavior on the podium on the playing of the national anthem for the 4×100 metres medal ceremony. At no point I had any intention to be disrespectful to the anthem or to the people who support me. My teammates and I were extremely overjoyed that we took the world record. As an ambassador for the sport and my country, I know my responsibilities and I will never do anything to put that in jeopardy,” Bolt said in a release.
Bolt is usually praised for his showboating antics but came in for sharp criticism when he and his training partner seemed to have forgotten protocol. Their actions riled a number of Jamaicans who have since voiced their displeasure.
“I would therefore like to apologise again and will do all in my power to maintain my status and actions in keeping with being a Jamaican ambassador and ultimately an ambassador for track and field,” he said.
