New York 5K winners to run at Reggae Marathon
THE winners of the inaugural Team Jamaica Bickle/Awesome Power Track Club 5K run will win a trip to take part in the December 3rd staging of the Reggae Marathon in Negril.
Through their partners, Air Jamaica and The Jamaica Tourist Board, the organisers of the race that will be run on Saturday, October 15th at Baisley Pond Park, Queens NY, will win an all-expenses paid trip to take part in the Marathon that has become a part of the annual road race calendar.
The New York race which is a USATF sanctioned event, will get underway at 10am with the award ceremony scheduled for noon.
Race-day registration is at 8am. Pre-registration is now open through Tuesday October 11 at www.baisleypark5k.com/.
Sean Phillips of Awesome Power TC says the events is expected to be a success with a number of top club runners down to take part, “The meet has attracted the top runners from various clubs across the state because our ‘grand prize’ is very attractive. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback from the community and various groups familiar with the work that Team Jamaica Bickle and Awesome Power Track Club does.”
A release from the organisers said, “The meet seeks to encourage healthy lifestyles, and is a fundraiser for the organisations’ numerous programmes throughout the year, which range from hosting approximately 750 athletes and coaches at the annual Penn Relays to providing scholarship disbursements to educational institutions and athletes.”
Participants in the various races can register for a 5K Run, a 5K Walk and a 1 Mile Run, open to varying age categories ranging from eight to 100.
There will be prizes for the top three in each age division.
