THINK you already know everything about the iUniverse? TEENage gives you Apple — with a twist. Here are the top 5 Apple products that you have probably never heard of (and for good reason).
Apple Bandai Pippin
This was Mac’s shameful first foray into computer gaming sphere. The Pippin was a modification of Mac hardware and programming and produced as a gaming console. Game manufacturers were utterly unimpressed and the Pippin retired quietly.
Macintosh TV
A large, bulky and expensive console that was designed as a boundary breaking cross between TV and PC, but came out more like the freakish lovechild of an elephant and Optimus Prime. It spent less than five months on the market.
Mac Cube
A mass of solid, rectangular proof that not all PC’s need to come in the same shape. Suffering from a high price and a manufacturing defect that led to cracks in the casing, the cube was withdrawn from the market after just one year.
‘Hockey Puck’ Mouse
A completely circular, one button mouse that was the bane of many people’s existence. The roundness of the mouse, though innovative, was completely impractical for long usage and placed strain on the wrists and elbows. Apple finally scrapped the idea and, sensibly, went back to the ergonomic drawing board.
The Mac Portable
A 16-pound monstrosity that really wasn’t all that portable. This computer was nearly four inches thick and had a screen that was practically obscur. Mac eventually came out with the Powerbook, which mercifully put the Portable users out of their misery.
