BT march on – TG’s resurgence continues with 1-0 win
BOYS’ TOWN scored a 1-0 victory against newcomers Highgate United in a dull Red Stripe Premier League football affair at Collie Smith Drive yesterday. Marvin Stewart landed the winner for the Red Brigade in the 30th minute.
Meanwhile, Tivoli Gardens continued their turnaround by beating Reno FC, 1-0, at the Edward Seaga Complex, to end the second round with four consecutive wins.
Christopher Jackson netted for the ‘Admiral’ Bailey-coached team with a sublime free-kick in the 58th minute.
At Collie Smith, the visitors proved no competition for the experienced campaigners Boys’ Town, satisfied to sit back and let the home side monopolise the encounter.
Play was centred around midfield after the second half has started with neither team making much of an impact in the final third.
Highgate’s closest chance to level the score came in the 80th minute when a high shot from Donovan Davis was spared by Kirk Porter, who was forced to stretch to his maximum height to knock it over the crossbar.
Boy’s Town coach Andrew Price admitted that his team had failed to capitalise on what would have been great chances against a much- weaker opponent.
“Satisfied with the result, not satisfied with the performance. I think we could have played a lot better. We had territorial dominance but weren’t making good decisions in the final third.
“We got a lot of opportunities where we could have helped our goal difference healthily, but we didn’t do that,” Price said.
Micheal Campbell of Highgate said that his team had been going through some difficulties losing players and struggling to maintain their form this season.
“We just need to work and with more work I think it can come better. We have a problem with players and management in second round I think we didn’t get a lot of points (because of that) but I think we working hard to get the players happy,” he said.
