Mico, GC Foster square-off in T20 Classic
UNBEATEN Mico University College and GC Foster College will square off in today’s final of the UTech Twenty20 Cricket Classic at the University of Technology, Old Hope Road base, starting at 12:00 pm.
Mico University topped the standings with maximum 12 points from three to advance to the championship decider.
UTech, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona and the St Catherine-based GC Foster all ended on four points, but the latter progressed on a superior run rate.
The Mico team has a formidable batting line-up consisting of Shacoya Thomas, Zeniffe Fowler and promising youth player Ramon Senior.
The GC Foster outfit boasts the talents of prolific opener Oraine Williams, Derval Green and pacer Dwight Stewart.
In Wednesday’s opening round of preliminary matches, Mico University defeated UTech by two runs.
Scores: UTech 137-7 (20 overs); Mico University 139-7 (19 overs)
Also on Wednesday, UWI went down by six wickets to GC Foster in a match reduced to 16 overs per side.
Scores: UWI 99-6 (16 overs); GC Foster 100-4 (15.1 overs).
On Thursday, Mico cruised to a seven-wicket victory over UWI.
Scores: UWI 98 all out (17.5 overs); Mico 101-3 (18.1 overs)
In the other match on that day, hosts UTech pulled off a nail-biting two-run win over GC Foster.
Scores: UTech 136-8 (20 overs); GC Foster 134-8 (20 overs)
In the final round of matches on Friday, Mico wrapped up their third consecutive win after a seven-run triumph over GC Foster.
Scores: Mico 124-6 (20 overs); GC Foster 117 all out (19.4 overs)
The biggest upset of the competition was recorded on Friday when UWI pulled off a three-wicket win over UTech. The victory was UWI’s first in the four years that the Classic has been staged.
