Ball knocks Arnett player out cold
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Arnett Gardens and Village opened their third round of the Red Stripe Premier League with a 1-1 draw in a game at the Elliston Wakeland Centre that promised but failed to deliver much excitement.
Village United, who were getting their first point from Arnett Gardens this season after back-to-back losses, scored on their first possession in the third minute but had to settle for the one point when the visitors equalised from the penalty spot mid way the half.
On the previous visit in the first round, the Arnett players reported that their locker room at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium was broken into in the first half and they lost valuables.
This time they lost defender Kemar D Brown, who was rushed to the nearby Falmouth General Hospital just before the end of the first half when he was knocked out cold by a pile driver of a free kick from Cordel Simpson taken about five yards from the Arnett 18-yard box.
Brown fell from the impact and laid still. He was then quickly placed in a vehicle and rushed to the medical facility, reports from players are that he put his hands up to block the ball and the force of the shot drove his fists back into his face.
Village did not wait long to get their first goal of the third round as on their first offensive foray, Williams picked up a ball inside the centre circle in the third minute, raced away from the Arnett defence, got into the 18-yard box and beat goalkeeper Damion Hyatt with a shot high into the goal for his ninth goal of the season.
Arnett dragged themselves out of the hole and got on level terms when Kirk Ramsey, who was dragged down in the box by Cordel Simpson, picked him self up and converted the penalty in the 31st minute.
