Manchester’s amazing mix
LAST Tuesday, TEENage Observer travelled to the cool hills of Manchester, for our first stop of the Easter term — Manchester High School. Little did we know that we were to be in for a day filled with displays from amazingly talented students. The weather provided the perfect backdrop for a good show.
To commence the day’s activities was Rohan doing a gospel song entitled Battle Is All that was well received by his schoolmates. Following that soulful performance was Alistar Bushay with a dub poem entitled Hunger, as he showed off his acting skills. Shauna Millwood with a expressive dance piece showing off her gymnastic skills. The audience watch her every move.
Romario Williams then did a soulful rendition of Enrique Iglesias’ Hero to the delight of especially the females. Though small in stature, he has a big voice.
Danielle Lewis also did a song, a rendition of Alicia Keys’ No One. That, however, did not go as well as she planned. Doing a rendition of Tessanne Chin’s Hideaway was Dena Campbell that had the crowd rocking from the start. Following that was Janoi Reid with his recitation of Louis Bennett’s dub poem Kas Kas, which was quite entertaining.
Ashae Jones aka DJ Boomerang came on stage with a piece that had the crowd cheering while he performed, as the students could relate to his lyrics. His performance was filled with energy. Then Ramon and Company was next with a beautiful rendition of Katy Perry’s Firework that had the audience singing along.
Five Star Expressions came on stage and pumped up the energy a bit with a creative and well-choreographed dance. The audience’s eyes were glued to their performance to see what they would do next.
Brittney and Company then came on stage and did a song, which was followed by Alecia Grey doing a original song entitled Erasing You. Daniel Harris then came on stage doing Vybz Kartel song Freestyle, which had the crowd in a frenzy.
Ornecia Williams was next, singing one of the greatest hits, Celine Dion’s Power Of Love that touched the heart of everyone at Manchester High School. Another song was done by Jamelia which was followed by Darnel and Company doing a rendition of Chris Brown and Justin Bieber’s Right Next To You.
Ashani Lawrence aka Dippy came on stage next with a VIP entrance and stole the show with tight choreography and well-executed dance moves that had the crowd giving an uproarious response, It was as if he came to win.
After such a energy-filled performance came Tattnam Lesslie doing a freestyle deejaying piece that had the audience rocking to his lyrics. He then made way for Johnathan Burden doing a song entitled Money.
Stunt-work for the first time was showcased by Olivia and Company.
As is customary, TEENage had some trivia segments, where students were asked questions and the winners were: Karlene McFarlene, Tulio Clarke, Sashana Small, Jotham Omoregie, Kymani Miller, Rickardo Pinnock and Jesson Morrisson.
Sponsors Pronto also had their share of excitement with the Pronto Porridge Mix Eat-off, which was won by Matthew Hanson.
While the judges tallied the scores TEENage provided the students with musical relief with guest performances by newcomer R-Kush and Ras Penco, who delivered hits.
In third place was DJ Boomerang, in second place was Ornecia Williams and in first place was Asani Lawrence aka Dippy.
All in all Manchester High School was a great tour experience.
