Promoted duo scores wins in Clarendon ML

YORK TOWN, Clarendon — Newcomers Jamalco regained top spot in the Clarendon/Captain’s Bakery Major League following a last-gasp win over York Town on Monday at the York Town Community Centre.

Damion Vernal struck the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute as Garfield Carney’s side overcame a tough York Town outfit in south west Clarendon.

The result means that Jamalco, who are yet to concede a goal, joined Milk River and New Bowens as the only teams to win their first two games.

They, however, share the lead atop the standings with Milk River as both teams boost an identical goal difference.

Four Paths – the other promoted side – survived a late scare against Longwood at the Monymusk Sports Club to register their first win of the season.

The debutants raced into 2-0 lead after just 35 minutes courtesy of goals from Devroy Rhoomes and Linton Coleman, but had to stave-off a late rally following Dwight Young’s 74th-minute consolation.

With the win, Four Paths moved within two points of the front-runners in fifth and maintained their unbeaten streak, while Longwood slipped further down the table without a point from two games.

Meantime, three seasoned campaigners York Town, Original Hazard and Gimme-Me-Bit will on Wednesday go in search of their first wins of the campaign following successive defeats in their two opening games.

Last-placed Gimme-Me-Bit host Hazard at the Gimme-Me-Bit playing field, while York Town will make a short trip up the road for a date with the other newcomers Four Paths at the Four Paths Community Centre.

Game time is 3:00 pm at both venues.
