Total fuels motorsports
TOTAL Jamaica, fuel and lubricants provider, gave local motorsports a boost when it unveiled three ‘red dragons’ and the Total Summerbell Racing team at the Pegasus Hotel in St Andrew on Tuesday.
The team comprises ‘King’ David Summerbell Jr, with the addition of Andre Anderson and Kyle Gregg.
Natalie Neita-Headley, minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for sports, commended the move.
“I am impressed with the level of involvement of Total and this goes well for motor sports. I love the endorsement of these two young drivers, who both have a bright future and the Government will certainly play its part to support the sport,” said Neita-Headley.
Summerbell Jr said he was honoured by the Gordon Craig-led company’s gesture.
“I am so honoured that the team was named after me. To think that Total has the confidence to build their team around me and to entrust me with their motor racing future is a dream come true for me,” Summerbell said.
Captain Marck Carey, president of the Jamaica Race Driver’s Club, said he was pleased with the endorsement as it would ensure the growth of the sport.
“I am a bit more excited about the competition off the track. When corporate Jamaica steps up to the plate and have other teams at Dover, the racing Team Concept, that would bring the product to another level,” said Carey.
The Carnival of Speed Easter race meet is scheduled for April 8 and 9. Racing titans Doug Gore and ATL Racing, Team Summerbell Racing, CRC Racing, Team Brown’s Town and the motorcyclists will renew their rivalry.
