McEwan returns as president of masters athletics
LEO McEwan will serve another two years as president of the
Jamaica Masters Athletics Association (JMAA) following last Thursday’s annual general meeting at the Ardenne High School. He was the only nominee for the post.
Humbled by what he called the “ringing endorsement” he had received, McEwan said he would be looking forward to the assistance from members to “build on the achievements of the association.
“There are some areas that we didn’t do as well as we would have liked, and I will be making it a priority to focus more on those areas,” he added.
Specifically, the JMAA had wanted to stage an all-island masters championships in the past two years, but would set the championships as their goal during the life of this new executive.
Other members elected to the executive of the association were vice-president Dr Maynard McIntosh, general secretary Gregory Tomlinson, and treasurer Winston Laidlaw. They will along with the president will run the association until 2014.
The JMAA represents athletes aged 35 and over both locally and in
the diaspora.
The masters are preparing to compete in the North American, Central American and Caribbean Masters
Championships scheduled for St John, Canada from August 9 and 11 this year.
